What Shodan does well
- Continuously scans the entire public IPv4 internet and indexes service banners, giving an adversary's-eye view of exposed assets no internal scanner sees
- On-demand scan requests (shodan scan) plus network alerts/monitoring (shodan alert) for real-time external attack-surface change detection
- Rich CLI with host lookup, search, count, and download/parse to newline-delimited JSON for pipelines and enrichment
- Maps CVEs to detected products and versions in service banners, flagging known-vulnerable internet-facing services
Where Vulnetix adds to it: Vulnetix ingests and orchestrates Shodan's exposure and CVE-tagged host data; it does not run internet-wide scans itself.
