Compromised version 6.1.24 of flat-cache (580M monthly downloads) via hijacked maintainer GitHub account in the Shai-Hulud supply chain attack. Malicious preinstall script executes setup.mjs dropper which downloads the Bun runtime and runs a 728KB obfuscated infostealer payload (Math_Symbol.js) targeting npm tokens, GitHub tokens, AWS credentials, Kubernetes secrets, Vault tokens, and sensitive files. Malicious payload found in: setup.mjs, Math_Symbol.js Trigger: preinstall script in package.json: node setup.mjs Behavior: Downloads Bun runtime, executes Math_Symbol.js infostealer targeting npm/GitHub/AWS/K8s/Vault/Stripe/Slack credentials, SSH keys, .env files, private keys. Exfiltrates encrypted data to GitHub repo. Contains worm propagation.
