Advisory PublishedCVSS 5.4/10
Self-replicating npm worm (first wave, from ~2025-09-14) that began with @ctrl/tinycolor and spread to ~195 packages by stealing maintainer npm tokens and republishing trojanized versions of each victim's packages.
A bundled bundle.js runs on install, uses TruffleHog to scan the host for secrets (npm/GitHub/AWS/GCP tokens), exfiltrates them to attacker-created public GitHub repositories named 'Shai-Hulud', and self-propagates by publishing malicious versions to other packages reachable via the stolen credentials.
