Vulnetix · Advisory published October 2, 2026
GitHub repository carrying the DPRK-linked PolinRider malware kit: obfuscated JavaScript disguised as a font/build-config file (dev-docs/docs/@excalidraw/excalidraw/api/children-components/public/fonts/fa-solid-900.woff2, dev-docs/babel.config.js) that executes with Node when the project is opened or built, delivering a backdoor/infostealer chain. Malicious payload found in: dev-docs/docs/@excalidraw/excalidraw/api/children-components/public/fonts/fa-solid-900.woff2, dev-docs/babel.config.js Commit: 17dda4106a2d1d30331847d48c411018bf23cfd5 Marker: global['!']='9-0699-2' Execution trigger: .vscode/tasks.json hidden "eslint-check" shell task with runOn: folderOpen, hide: true, reveal: never — runs `node ./dev-docs/docs/@excalidraw/excalidraw/api/children-components/public/fonts/fa-solid-900.woff2` silently when the folder is opened in VS Code/Cursor. Payload: single-line javascript-obfuscator blob in a fake Font Awesome file, padded with leading whitespace so it renders blank in editors. PolinRider v5 kit (DPRK-attributed); same tasks.json + fake-font layout documented by JFrog Security Research (2026-06-24). Staged fork of excalidraw/excalidraw (never submitted as a PR). Found by account fork sweep. HEAD commit forges the author, date and message of a real upstream commit to hide the injection.
