Advisory PublishedCVSS 9.6/10
Vulnetix · Advisory published October 22, 2026
This campaign consists of similar loader packages, which provide executing code from a given URL. While they do not contain the malicious payload and the usage remains unknown, they are clearly a coordinated campaign to place multiple deceptive ways to load malicious code. Category: MALICIOUS - The campaign has clearly malicious intent, like infostealers. Campaign: 2026-10-voice-synthesis-profiles Reasons (based on the campaign): - Downloads and executes a remote malicious script. - other Judge assessment: The package implements a remote code loader: `spec()` in `hookgantry/__init__.py` fetches an arbitrary URL (defaulting to `https://example/internal/spec.py` or `HOOKGANTRY_URL`), writes the response to a temp directory, and executes it in a fresh module namespace via `exec(compile(source, ...))`. This is a classic fetch-and-exec loader pattern — there is no sandboxing despite the documentation claim, just an unverified remote Python file executed in-process. The package is brand-new (3 hours old), has no source repository, a single version, and is part of a named coordinated campaign of similar loader packages per the OSV advisory, which is consistent with the code's structure. The attacker model is a remote-code-execution dropper that waits for a payload to be placed at the configured URL before activating. ENTRY hookgantry/__init__.py (module-import: 53) DESTINATION - 1 fetched-payload (urls) (values recorded in verified_iocs) EXFIL - Network Request in hookgantry/__init__.py: "urllib.request.urlopen(" ADDITIONAL FINDINGS - Dynamic Code Execution in hookgantry/__init__.py: "compile(source, mod.__file__, "exec")" - Brand New Package PAYLOAD FILES hookgantry/__init__.py
