Vulnetix · Advisory published October 22, 2026
This campaign consists of similar loader packages, which provide executing code from a given URL. While they do not contain the malicious payload and the usage remains unknown, they are clearly a coordinated campaign to place multiple deceptive ways to load malicious code. Category: MALICIOUS - The campaign has clearly malicious intent, like infostealers. Campaign: 2026-10-voice-synthesis-profiles Reasons (based on the campaign): - other - Downloads and executes a remote malicious script. Judge assessment: The package implements a fetch-and-exec loader: `acquire()` in `speaksocket/__init__.py` downloads arbitrary Python source from a caller-supplied URL (or `SPEAKSOCKET_URL` environment variable), writes it to a temp directory under `.speaksocket/`, and executes it in-process via `exec(compile(source, mod.__file__, "exec"), mod.__dict__)`. The package has no legitimate functionality of its own — its entire surface is a mechanism for loading and running remote, attacker-controlled code. The attacker model is supply-chain positioning: the package installs cleanly (stdlib-only, no binary wheels), then any downstream call to `execute()` or `acquire()` runs whatever payload the operator has placed at the supplied URL. The IOC URL extracted from the docstring (`https://example/internal/harness.py`) is a placeholder example, not a confirmed C2 endpoint, so no destination is listed; the loader infrastructure itself is the malicious artifact. Minimal metadata (no repo, no description, no homepage) is consistent with a throwaway campaign package, corroborating the coordinated-campaign assessment. ENTRY speaksocket/__init__.py (module-import: 53) DESTINATION - 1 c2 (urls) (values recorded in verified_iocs) EXFIL - Network Request in speaksocket/__init__.py: "urllib.request.urlopen(" ADDITIONAL FINDINGS - Dynamic Code Execution in speaksocket/__init__.py: "compile(source, mod.__file__, "exec")" PAYLOAD FILES speaksocket/__init__.py
