Advisory PublishedCVSS 9.6/10
This campaign consists of similar loader packages, which provide executing code from a given URL. While they do not contain the malicious payload and the usage remains unknown, they are clearly a coordinated campaign to place multiple deceptive ways to load malicious code.
Category: MALICIOUS - The campaign has clearly malicious intent, like infostealers.
Campaign: 2026-10-voice-synthesis-profiles
Reasons (based on the campaign):
- other
- Downloads and executes a remote malicious script.
Judge assessment: The package implements a remote code loader as its core functionality: on import, `pull()` fetches arbitrary Python source from a caller-supplied URL (or BENCHWORKS_URL env var), writes it to disk under /tmp/.benchworks/, and executes it in-process via `exec(compile(...))`. This is a textbook staged-loader pattern — the package itself carries no payload, but it provides a ready-made mechanism to fetch and execute any code an attacker controls at the URL. The IOC classifier identifies the example URL as a C2 role, which is consistent with the design: the actual malicious payload stays server-side and is pulled at runtime, evading static analysis of the package itself. Minimal metadata (no description, no repo, no homepage) and the absence of any legitimate open-source use case corroborate adversarial intent; a legitimate remote-snippet runner would not be published under a throwaway account with zero documentation. The OSV advisory links this to a coordinated campaign of similar loader packages, which is consistent with what the code shows.
