In binutils existieren mehrere Schwachstellen. Die Ursachen sind unter anderem "double free" und "use after free" Fehler, ungültige Lesevorgänge und Nullzeiger Dereferenzierungen. Ein entfernter anonymer Angreifer kann diese Schwachstellen ausnutzen, um einen Denial of Service zu verursachen. Zur erfolgreichen Ausnutzung dieser Schwachstelle muss der Angreifer den Benutzer dazu bringen eine modifizierte Datei zu öffnen.
